Gilly Messenger is a great alternative MSN Messenger Client. Some of the fetures include support for emoticons, display pictures, and custom away messages.
One problem that I had with Gilly Messenger was that display pictures don’t always work, and if someone is using the MSN Messenger client and has set up custom emoticons, they do not show up in Gilly. But what I like is that I before I sign-in I am able to set my initial status. This is great because if their is a certain someone online, you could ignore them and then set your status online.
