Apple's new iMac Pro is a very powerful Mac designed specifically for pro users that require workstation-class performance. It has Xeon processors up to 18 cores with Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz, up to 22 Teraflops of graphics performance, and a 27-inch Retina 5K display that can achieve 500 nits of brightness, a P3 wide color gamut, and support for 1 billion colors. This is particularly useful for real-time 3D rendering, immersive VR, intensive developer workflows, high megapixel photography, massive audio projects, and real-time 4K and 8K video editing.
iMac Pro features Radeon Pro Vega graphics with 16GB of High Bandwidth Memory at 400GB/s. This is up to two times faster than any other iMac GPU. This delivers higher frame rates for VR, real-time 3D rendering, more lifelike special effects, and gameplay at max settings.
iMac Pro has four channels of memory, meaning it can accommodate up to 128GB. This means you can simulate and render huge 3D models, and keep numerous apps open at the same time. You can also get up to 4TB of all-flash internal storage with up to 3GB/s throughput.
Apple also introduced a new T2 chip that integrates several controllers found in other Mac systems, like the system management controller, image signal processor, audio controller, and SSD controller. It will work with the FaceTime HD camera to enable enhanced tone mapping, improved exposure control, and face detection-based auto exposure and auto white balance. The T2 chip also increases security with the Secure Enclave coprocessor which provides the foundation for new encrypted storage and secure boot capabilities.
The new iMac Pro has plenty of high-speed ports as well. It has Four Thunderbolt 3 ports that let you connect two 5K monitors and transfer data at 40Gb/s. It also has a 10Gb ethernet port. Apple has redesigned the thermal architecture of iMac Pro so it has almost 75% more airflow and an 80% increase in system thermal capacity. This lets iMac Pro handle 500 watts, which is 67% more power than the regular 27-inch iMac. iMac Pro's internal speakers have been enhanced, delivering a broad frequency response with rich bass and more volume in general. It has four beamforming mics, too.
Apple's new iMac Pro comes in a new space gray color, with matching keyboard, mouse, and trackpad accessories that are available exclusively at the time of purchase. It starts at $4,999 for the base configuration.
