SF is getting free Wi-Fi from Google
If you use Wi-Fi use WPA encryption - it’s the only safe form of wireless networking.
VPN is a way to secure yourself on open access points. We explain in Security Now podcasts #13 and #14.

Q Richard in San Jose - replacing my old cell phone
He still has a Cellular One phone. Will it be phased out. Very likely, but you can get a new free one from ATT/Cingular.
Q Cynthia in Novato - borrowing Wi-Fi

Q Mike in San Anselmo - underwater MP3 players
%Oregon Scientific makes one. You can also get a waterproof case for the ipod from H2Audio.

Blackberry 8700 from RIM
He uses PocketMac to sync his Blackberry with Mac OS X.
