For more Leo all week long, listen to the
TWiT Netcast Network

Here are some links from the topics I talked about with Ronn on Tuesday, November 22, 2005…

(These are the sketchy notes I took as we spoke to remind me - full links to follow!)

SF is getting free Wi-Fi from Google

If you use Wi-Fi use WPA encryption - it’s the only safe form of wireless networking.

VPN is a way to secure yourself on open access points. We explain in Security Now podcasts #13 and #14.

Podcasting is internet audio you can subscribe to. Think of it as Tivo for the radio.

Ronn and I both love the new iPods.

According to www.thinksecret.com, Apple will introduce the first Intel-based Macs in January at MacWorld Expo.

For more information on the Sony rootkit fiasco, read Mark Russinovich’s blog or listen to Security Now #12.

Q Richard in San Jose - replacing my old cell phone

He still has a Cellular One phone. Will it be phased out. Very likely, but you can get a new free one from ATT/Cingular.

Q Cynthia in Novato - borrowing Wi-Fi

It’s technically illegal to use someone’s wireless network without permission. Prosecutions are rare (but not unheard of), but my recommendation is to do the right thing. Contact the neighbor, explain how to secure his network (run WPA) and offer him a few bucks to keep using it.

Q Mike in San Anselmo - underwater MP3 players

%

Oregon Scientific makes one. You can also get a waterproof case for the ipod from H2Audio.

Ronn’s favorite gadgets:

Verizon Wireless LG 9800 and VCAST
Blackberry 8700 from RIM
He uses PocketMac to sync his Blackberry with Mac OS X.

Q Norman in San Diego
